We do not currently have boat access but have the itch to fish, preferably saltwater or brackish. I live in Greenville and all of the usual suspects seem to still be closed. Anyone know of any access or piers that are open that me and my father in law can try out this weekend?
I was checking into this last week and Wiggins Mill in Wilson seemed like it might be open, but I never got a chance to call and confirm. There wasn't anything on the Wilson Parks and Rec page saying that it was closed, at any rate.
Ah, missed the saltwater/brackish part. Can't help with that. Let's just say that I prefer surf/bank fishing and have been looking at boats on Craigslist.
I have not heard, read that Beaufort County WRC ramps are closed. I think they are open from Tranters Creek, west, to Belhaven, Smith creek, East. Have fun. https://www.ncpaws.org/ncwrcmaps/boatingaccessareas
Wow, this is a great resource! I didn't know this website existed. The Portal Access to Wildlife Systems boating access map is super handy. I'll be bookmarking this page, thanks.
Have you checked with Jimmy Daniels at Cotton Patch Landing? Never heard that he closed his ramp. There is also a WRC ramp next door to his private ramp. Both in Beaufort County on Blounts Creek. OH
Jimmy’s ramp is open but you can’t bank fish there. The wildlife ramp at Crisp Landing is open and there is a pier there. There were people fishing from it yesterday.
The wildlife ramp in Pamlico Beach in Beaufort County is open...that is on Wright’s Creek right off the Pungo. That is about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Greenville.
Also people frequently fish off the Bath Creek bridge in Bath, and last year the town of Bath opened a small fishing pier between the foot of the bridge and the pizza place (Blackbeard’s Slices and Ices). From Greenville, that would be a 45-50 minute drive.
All of the above meet your brackish water criteria, and the fishing—especially for trout—has been good.
Hyde County opened today,5/6, so Rose Bay, Swansboro is available for fishing.
