Default Angler's Park (VA) / Dan River - anything worthwhile?

I've gone up to Danville VA to mountain bike at Angler's Park before, back during the period when I wasn't fishing. But I've never fished on the Dan River at all. It just occurred to me to ask, does anybody know if it's worthwhile to fish up in that area? That could be in the context of a trip dedicated just to fishing, or a combined trip to do some fishing and some mountain bike riding.

For reference, I live in Chapel Hill, so Danville isn't too crazy far away. And the only boat I have is my inflatable SIB, so I'm mostly thinking in terms of bank fishing (or wading) for something like this.

Also, does anybody know off-hand if VA and NC have any reciprocity on fishing licenses, or would I need to go buy a VA license separately?

    Thoughts?

There is reciprocity on the section of the New that flows along the border. I don't know about the Dan.

Looks like there is some reciprocity on the Dan, but there's so many rules and by-lines and exceptions and weird clauses. Ugh. If I go up there, I'm just going to buy a VA license and call it done. Don't want to accidentally run afoul of the game warden.

Good catfishing there for sure. Channel cats, flatheads, blues, bullheads, & possibly other species. I've waded it a bunch, but one has to be cautious about stepping into a deep hole. The current is strong in places.
Stripers run up the river in the spring.

this^ not really good for wading as current rips in there..../I have several videos from that area and in some you can see how fast it rips.....you only need a nc license up the the Union St Dam.....smalles in there, flatheads blues, stripers in late april and early may. they dont stay long there. they get uop there spawn and go back quick since it is shallow .

I've wondered myself. Got a kayak and the current looked strong. It may have recently gained a fair bit. We had crossed over at milton. Anyone fish it out of a kayak?
