    Default Surf fishing Holden Beach

Went out for a week and found a few croaker in the sound and some whiting in the surf, was expecting a little better what can I do to get more game fish in the future?

Also made a fun little video of anybody wants to check it out!

Hey Shore Fishing - cool video. Looks like you guys had a blast. Your best bet for bigger fish in the surf are the 3 B's.

    Bait, Bait, & Bait!

Alive or fresh. Every bottom rig fishing trip should start with either catching your own bait or buying the freshest you can get. Bait shops are okay, but fish markets are the bomb. By the way, Whiting is a great tasting fish. They also make really good bait...

Obviously there are many more strategies but fresh bait is a big factor.

    Good Luck

Things might have changed in the 20 years or so since I moved away, but in the past, there were plenty of places to buy fresh shrimp if you like using shrimp as bait. That was always what I used for the (very) limited amount of salt-water fishing I did.

Next time you're picking up that fresh shrimp, ask the retailer if it's been frozen...
