Default Looking for recommendations for lake camping/fishing in the Western part of NC

My wife and I want to take a few weekdays off next month and do some camping and fishing. I live in the Triad area and it will be pretty hot by then, so heading toward higher elevation makes sense. We want to do kayak fishing, and would be interested in a lake or a river that isn't too shallow for my Native Titan 12 pedal kayak (wife's kayak is a paddle one). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Hopefully boat traffic won't be that much of a factor during the week. We are fine with driving a good ways, so the mountains of SC or Eastern TN wouldn't be out of the question. Thanks all.

There are quite few lakes in western NC for kayaking and camping. Lake James, fontana, santeelah are all good for camping, kayaking and fishing.

I've always loved Lake James, think it's a beautiful lake
