    Default Tarpon?

Has anyone seen any tarpon rolling close to the beach? Also, does anyone have any advice on fishing for tarpon from a boat? I am located near Wilmington and would like to give it a shot. I know they gather in the Pamlico later in the summer but I do not plan on going up there this year.

If you're in a boat, you might want to run down to Southport and fish the back side of Bald Head Island. There are some deep holes the tarpon love to congregate in. Cut bait or large Medhaden are pretty good baits to start out with. I have seen some 80-100 Lb Tarpon come in from that area. I don't ever remember seeing one caught on a fly there though.

Yes been seeing them, been chasing them & not catching them in 7 trips.

Capt. Jon Huff caught a big Tarpon on fly.
Huff’s favorite fly for Cape Fear River tarpon is a peanut butter (purple/black) toad fly; it produced all of his clients’ tarpon hookups last year. Huff estimated Rustin’s first fly tarpon at around 125 pounds, the largest boated.

I've been chasing NC "unicorns" aka Tarpon ever since i stumbled upon this sight........

    Tips for Tarpon.

    1. Make sure to fish on the hottest no wind days
    2. Set out baits and roast in the sun
    3. Maybe get a bite
    4. If you do get a bite maybe get it in
    5. Repeat

That's half satire and half truth.
