Planning a small camping trip w the family to the Mountains the last weekend of Oct. Any good leads on a campground that has access to a stream or lake is appreciated.
Curtis Creek Campground, in Eastern Pisgah, is right next to Curtis Creek. Davidson River Campground, in Brevard, is great also, definitely less remote.
Thanks for the replies, Steve, and cardsfan. Looking for something family friendly. Basically car camping for a weekend. Nothing to technical and hoping to just roll out of the bag and short walk to creek or lake. Area will be anywhere in the mountains of NC. Not to particular, just trying to come up w some ideas.
If you don't mind catch and release in delayed harvest streams I would suggest Helton Creek has a small campground, Stone Mountain State Park nice campground or Wilson Creek national forest campground.
Note- scratch Wilson Creek Mortimer Campground. I just learned it is closed. There are some primitive sites in the area but no facilities.
Carolina Hemlocks is a Forest Service campground located near Burnsville. The campground is on the Toe River at a section that is hatchery supported. Easy access on Hwy 80. Close to MT.Mitchell and the parkway. Has showers but no hookups for a RV. Some sites can handle a small RV.
