    Smile Atlantic Beach - inshore / pier oct 8th--10th - 2020

    Fishing was excellent all weekend.

    Piers:

Runs of Spanish Mackeral off both piers, w/ Oceanna having once-in-blue-moon type Spanish runs on Thursday afternoon -- gotcha's and really anything shiny would catch them...big Spanish too. Bottom fishing seemed slower - but saw man put 3.2lb Pompano (holy cow) on the board. Pier was crowded and may intimidate some folks -- but don't let it, get your gotcha and get out there...a few jerky locals will try to intimidate, but by and large they just want to catch fish and will help you if you ask...

Inshore: gangs of smaller puppy/redfish, enough keepers for everyone to pull a slot fish - delicious, random smaller flounder, no specks. Fish with a popper cork and put either a jig head and gulp behind it, or if you have live minnows or shrimp put a smaller than you think circle hook behind it - and go forth. Your look for pretty shallow water and moving water...get up on the grass, lose a hook or two up in there...once you take a few guided trips, you'll have the 80/20 basics down and can have big days... pop it less with the live bait, but pop it none the less...pop it hard and quick, let it sit...you'll know.

    Tight lines freaks. TheCake.

I Fished the surf in Atlantic beach, between the Oceanna Pier and Fort Macon Monday afternoon. Just a couple hours on the falling tide I caught a lot of pin fish, small flounder, black drum and mullet. Nothing big but it beat sitting in the condo. All was on fresh shrimp on a bottom rig.
