Anyone interested in a get together in cherokee this spring. I have noticed you guys from other parts of the state have some good m&g's. wouldnt have to be on the trophy water, I know some guys here don't sling flies. Just a thought
Sounds like a good idea to me. You could count me in if I could fit it in my work schedule. I'm always up for an excuse to head west and hunt some trout.
Yeah chattaloochee creek on the smnp sounds great to me. Its one of my top five favorite trout streams. It's a little drive from cherokee to get there though.
sounds like fun tom! as of right now i dont have anything going on in april that would stop me from heading out on that side of the state. but with working for the government i never know sometimes when and were i have to travel! but if i am home count me in!
Might be interested if the dates work out. Keep me posted. I have never fished that far west, but would love to come out and try it. Thanks for asking.
I'll see what my crew thinks ...I might can join in for a day trip. Its been 15 years since I flung a fly at a fresh water trout. Are there any smallies there?

Someone has to stay behind to take care of the "live stock" 7 cats and 2 dogs. I'll see what happens. Jared is tring to get a full time job with the N Guard. I need to be back by Sunday.Rhonda would love to come along too. Oh the live stock is tying material!
I'd be interested in a backpacking trip to the smokies as well. Coming from Charlotte I figure I'd need to overnight it to get enough time on the river...at least that's my excuse. Keep me posted.
hemi, you have smokemont if you want to fish cherokee and the park, cataloochee if you want to be in a campground but have fairly easy walk in fishing, or deep creek, which has a fairly large campground and you can walk in to some great backcountry water. most of the other creeks are some serious walk-ins, or you can cheat and get a boat ride across fontana.
I've camped at chataloochee several times in the past but you have to get there early to stake out a spot just like the rest of the sites. Also have to make sure they don't have a trail ride going on or you will never get a spot or fish from all the folks wandering around.
thats why I walk into caldwell or rough fork. everyone beats the water near the campground to death. not so bad last spring, everyone was there to stare at the elk
What size flies do I need to tie? I usually don't fish drys...I like wet flies and streamers . What is the trout population there consist of Browns ,Bows, Brookies?
smokemont, mostly bows, a few browns, cataloochee had a bunch of brookies last spring. never caught 'em that low before, but we caught a bunch of 7-9'' ers below the campground. deep creek used to be mostly browns, but over the years, the bows took over, though the park has had a high mortality rate with lower elevation streams, I am hoping to see the bigger browns come back. It has been years since I have heard of a 20'' brown coming out of deep creek. i keep it simple in the park with patterns. you don't have to go tiny, 16's are fine, stuff like pheasant tails, gold ribbed hares ears, dries like stimulators and generic parachutes are great. I like swinging sparsely tied wets too. they can be deadly on days when nothing else will get 'em moving. fish are not as picky as the celebrity fish on the davidson. forgot about streamers. Wooly boogers, sculpins work fine. have caught some decent fish on small crawfish patterns. friends dad caught a hog 24''er 20 some years ago fishing a mouse I tied out of a big hole on bumgarner bend on deep creek. ex of mine has my pics of that fish if the weather cooperates and the water warms by april, there are several streams on the gamelands with tons of camping, possessed can show us his favorite spots for some wild brookies
I'm in for camping. Anytime. My ultralight camping gear is always packed and ready to go!
