was wanting a little info on the rock wall/jetty that goes from the backside of "the basin" to zeke island. i've been looking around on gearth and have seen some reports as to the fact that there have been a few fish around that area. really looking to fish a carolina rig for flatties but didn't know whether i should take any casting rods. i see that there are marsh lands all around zeke island. what about flounder and pups in that section? i haven't been to fisher in years but just looking for another place to fish from the surf due to all of the politics up in hatteras. thanks.

Be careful, watch the tides, almost lost the car in the parking lot last year. The rocks are slippery, and covered with oysters, On a good tide there isnt a rock wall between zekes island and fort fisher. bring plenty of weights if your using a carolina rig, All that being said, I've caught plenty of fish down there, just gotta weigh the pros and cons because it will be tough on your gear.

yeah, i can remember as a kid watching a guy slide down one and came out with a nasty looking knee. i was thinking that felt boots may help out with the slippery surfaces as i have heard them incorporated on jetties from time to time. anyway, if i can find one of my friends that are willing to go on another one of my adventures (they are getting fewer and fewer...?), i'm gonna give it a go. i noticed that there is no camping in fort fisher but i read the zeke island website and there is nothing that says you can't camp there or on no name island either. so...anyway, i'm not as spry as i used to be but i still have the adventurous spirit. when you say that it will be rough on my gear, do you mean the underwater oyster beds being rough on my line and stealing my lures? if so, i was thinking about trying to rig up a simple spin casting floater rig that i could get about thirty yards out of. i was thinking that would keep my line from dragging over the beds. also considering to load up one reel with braid. any thoughts would be appreciated.

There are a lot of oyster beds/ random rocks, If your fishing off the rocks themselves you will lose a lot of bottom rigs, including carolina rigs, the floating rigs work, but there is usually a pretty good current going through, I use a basic two hook bottom rig with a pyramid sinker (2 to three ounces), that will probably cause the least problems for you, when retrieving get it off the bottom and bring it in quick, Good luck!

well okay...does anyone know anything about the zeke's island area? it appears you can walk there. and what about the basin area. i'm seeing that it is probably a nursery where most fish in the area grow up but it appears that other fish may be in their area as well. also, on zeke's island, it appears that it is a sandy bottom so i wouldn't think i would lose many rigs. it turns out we will have a 4wd so we can get to other areas on the island if need be. just looking for some $.02. thanks.
one more thing...should i bring some casting rods?
