My biggest problem is dealing with "agencies", they all have that hurry-up-and-wait attitude. Medicaid took their sweet time not letting me know till last week that he was approved back on Oct. 23! Would've been nice to know that then so that all of his hospice bills and doctor bills could have been submitted while he was still getting the care. Now I am waiting to hear about the widow's pension from the VA. They don't get in a rush, either. The lady in the local office was great. She is even researching it to see if there is a possibility the tumor could have been related to his military service. If it could be shown to be connected it would mean that the pension amount would almost double and I would qualify to get medical benefits through them. But that could take quite a while since she has tons of research to do. It is just amazing to me that she is doing that voluntarily. She said I have a year to file for that so there is time. She sent in the application for the pension marked "hardship" thinking it would hurry everything along. I hope she's right! Until I get that I have no income at all so the other bills get paid as I can manage them. I will be eligible for his SS After Feb. 20, 2013 so if I can just manage till then I will be fine money-wise. That year is just going to seem unending! I am waiting for one final hospital bill to be handled. Medicaid didn't cover it because it was before he met his deductible last time. So it is more "wait and see" stress. The biggest problem is that he lost his life insurance when he went on disability. The company cancelled it the very day he was approved for the disability! Didn't even ask us if we wanted to continue it on personal-pay. And of course he couldn't get any on his own because of the terminal cancer. That really hurt but I will get through it all, slowly but surely. The support Brian and I have gotten here on "angler" has been amazing and means so much to us both. We are celebrating his birthday this weekend. It is going to be a difficult time without Charlie but I want to make it special for Brian. Then we get through Valentine's Day before my birthday arrives on the 20th. Our family always teases us that I planned his birth to be followed by the other two over the next two weeks so we could get more gifts. Hey, it works!

VA -- there is an organization called Disabled American Veterans (DAV). IMO they are the absolute best to work for you. The people that submit your claims are disabled vets, have tons of training, can research thousands of claims, know how to present a claim,,,,, this is all they do! They work for free no matter if you are a member or not! They are based in DC area but have offices all over the country. Give them a call!

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Still waiting to hear from the VA. And dealing with the hospital on bills. Seems like it's never going to all be completed, every time I think I'm getting it all taken care of something else rears it's ugly head. I just give up sometimes and sit down to play with the dog! She's a hoot!

Today is my birthday and it is a very difficult time for me.Six years ago today Charlie had his first seizures, beginning his battle again his malignant brain cancer. THIS IS WHY I WORK SO HARD TO RAISE MONEY FOR BRAIN TUMOR RESEARCH (http://wishes.causes.com/wishes/430147). People have commented that I would have a hard time every year around Thanksgiving. Charlie had his first seizures on my birthday in 2006. We got his cancer diagnosis the day after his birthday. We received the news of three of the recurrences around his birthday and our anniversary. We found out that the Gamma Knife didn't get the whole tumor around my birthday. He fell and broke his hip and was in the hospital on our 40th anniversary. So the fact that he died on Thanksgiving means nothing. I think of it as Nov. 24th, not Thanksgiving. If I didn't look at it that way I would never remember any important dates that we shared. I will say that my birthday is the hardest date for me because it was the beginning of everything. I am so thankful for the caring words, prayers and support that I get from you all on here. It is a tremendous help for me everyday but especially today. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Jan, I'll wish you a very happy birthday, even though this day doesn't have good memories for you. I know that Charlie would want you to have many more happy birthdays. Didn't take me long to know that when I saw you both together.

Happy Birthday Jan, hopefully remembering some of the birthdays that came before 2006 will help lessen your pain.

Thanks to those who extended birthday wishes! I just had a nice two-day visit from my big sister and bro-in-law. It was really different not having Charlie here with us. I think we all felt his absence pretty strongly, especially at the times we were laughing about something. His sense of humor is one of the things everyone misses most! They had their dog with them so Miss Gabby had a fun time playing with her. I hope everyone gets through the stormy weekend with no problems. Hopefully they will die down when they hit our mountains. Praying for the areas that might get hit that there won't be any injuries or loss of life and just minimal damage, if any.

Was playing at Dad's fly-tying bench and discovered the forgotten Charlie Cobb Redfish rigs and jigs he tied!

I don't think Charlie could ever have done anything that didn't look professional. Brian, glad you're at your dad's bench. I am sure Charlie would want you there.

    Jan,

sorry i haven't been on here in a while. I am glad to hear that you are doing well. I hope that you had a nice
birthday regardless of all past things revolving around certain dates. Dennis is right, charlie would have wanted you to have a very special birthday. We all miss charlie deeply, he was a great friend and a wonderful human being. I am honored to have met charlie and you & brian.
