i found this when looking for a Wilson's Creek hatch chart on Google to keep handy so i wouldn't have to look every time before i go for the hatches. some of yall might have heard of this but i thought i needed to post it.i try to go to wilson's to fly fish but never really can and i know some others fish there and wanted to share so others are more cautious at Wilson's Creek and all other places where fisherman fish. very tragic news and i no i will be more cautious now fishing on moving water especially wadding and hope others will too. yall should take a look below http://www.tarheelflyfishing.com/2010/04/tragic-day-on-wilson-creek.html
I am like Tom/.....I wet wade until i cant stand the cold...............my exception is the Smith river in Va........too cold up near the dam to wet wade anytime.....
Been busy....between moving the daughter and helping the son with getting his property ready to build on. then theres that evil work word. managed a few short trips in....we are heading to MB next week for a few days and doubt I'll even bring a rod.
I know everyone's focus has been on the waders issue, but it really goes beyond that. It's about the risk of swimming in moving water and the dangers associated with it. And I know that people do fish Wilson gorge when the water is at a fairly high level, because I've seen them.
Falling in and getting swept into a strainer or sieve can be fatal, not to mention the risk of taking a blow to the head on a rock. And even a short swim with a PFD And drysuit on, can be extremely exhausting. I got my kayak stuck in the hole at the bottom of triple drop one day (creek was +6) and ended up swimming. Luckily I flushed, but by the time I made the short swim to shore, I could hardly drag myself out of the water.
Wilson is actually not extremely high on the danger scale compared to many other rivers, but until men grow gills, all water is dangerous.
Be safe.
Seems like a good time to close this thread. Not sure we're going to add much better to this discussion. Thanks all...
