Never seen one get hit but I have heard it anchored upstream or just down around a bend....you hear a boat running fast and then hear a big thunk and no more engine noise. I would tow them back but that's kinda hard in a square stern canoe with a 2.5 hp engine lol.

Is there any shad fishing on purpose in the upper Pamlico river say from New Bern to Washington or in the creeks that flow into this area?

New bern is on the neuse. I would think that the width of the river at both places would have them spread out and few and far between.

Width of the river, hmmm, that actually makes sense. But if they are in the Pamplico or Tar, maybe there is a secret pinch point somewhere.

I meant Bellhaven not New Bern

Thanks for bringing Shad fishing to the forefront. It’s been a good year so far and the advice on catching still holds.

Shad catching is slowing a bit now but it’s worth the trip as rock are running. Don’t forget it’s catch and release the rock on Pamlico, tar, Neuse and cape fear.
