Man is the roanoke high... I thought it was up last week but its twice as bad now... I keep trying to sneak down and try my luck out on shad but with the water is so high i don't know where to go. Anyone know a good fishing spot within a short drive of williamston?

If the water is up fish the areas that go throw the bends in the river if you can get to them. The fish usually will take the straight path threw woods or swamps. If that makes sense. Or jus go and throw. Fish the different water levels

Me and a buddy went the the 70 bridge in Kinston on our way back from New Bern yesterday. We met one guy who was just leaving an had not got a bite all day. So we tried for about an hour or so with no luck either! Still a little bit early I guess.

I stopped by there on monday and talked with a guy who fishes for shad all the time there. Most times he'll start right after the 1st of the year. He told me he has had a couple of bumps so far, that he thought were shad, but no solid hook ups yet. It will happen soon.

I have tied a few jigs, hunted up head and grubs and packed my little Plano box. Ready to go but I do feel under-tackled. To used to carrying a boat load of stuff to bass fish.

I hope you make it Scott I thought you would be working. I had already decided to try to make it by the tackle shop Sat. on the way home. (provided the I didn't leave the M&G and decide to go back to the river till dark.)

One more question I usually tie everything (except in trout waters) directly to my braid. Do you think I should use a leader for shad fishing in the Neuse River?

Last year I was catching them tying directly to braid. Anyone have any word on how far up the Neuse they are yet?
