Those of you over 40 or so that grew up hunting and fishing in NC will no doubt remember Franc White and "The Southern Sportsman" TV show. WRAL is reporting that he has passed away. Here is a video of one of his shows

Sorry to hear of his passing. Franc, the show, and the advertisers were always class acts.

Dang, I hate he's gone .... I can still easily recall the sound of the garage door opening to reveal the zebra plane and the theme song starting. Franc introduced me to capers ... I think every recipe he cooked on the show had capers .. and of course, there was Caper.

Over 40? I am 29 and was a big Franc White fan. I used to watch him on WRAL every saturday morning back in the day. He may very well be one reason I have this addiction. Dont reelect anyone... not even your mama. Do yourself a favor, take a kid fishing.

That makes me feel pretty old. I watched him back around 1972 before all the Outdoor shows hit the cable. I still think of House Autry Newton Grove NC and Happy Jack dog food because of him and their sponsorship all those years. He was ahead of his time and old school all at once.

I used to watch him on the PBS channel out of Winston Salem. Only PBS station we could get here in the mountains of Patrick County VA. He is the reason that I still use House Autry fish batter and hushpuppy mix and Happy Jack products on my hunting dogs. I am 40 years old but I remember watching his shows until I was 13 or 14 before PBS in Winston quit showing them. Him and Justin Wilson were my two favorite shows when I was a kid.

My Mom woke me at the crack of dawn every saturday morning growing up to sit with me and watch his show. Or w/e it was coming on over the years...We would sit and talk and dream of fishing all those places. Since then we have been blessed to fish almost all of them ;-) Great man and conservationist before anyone even thought about such things. Sad passing...
