    Dear Mr. Froggy,
    \n
\nYou DO have a chance at winning a Red X event though based on history those chances diminish greatly at the New River Smallmouth Trip. The Red X Tournament Archives (available here: www.nonexistantredxarchives.com) indicate that you have participated in 5 NRST events and have been disqualified from all of them. Professional Outfitters, Guides and others like yourself generally pay no attention to the Red X Tournament Rulebook (available here: www.youreallyarearookieifyouclickthis.com ). Records indicate that you have been DQ\'d for: Fishing with too many rods, Utilizing a prototype kayak, claiming fish caught by the lovely Froggette as your own; gaining unfair advantage by sleeping in an RV and attempting to sway the Judge by providing shuttle, camping and cooking services. Good luck in August.

    Dear Mr. Pierman,
    \n
\nIt gives me great pleasure to receive questions from a legendary redfish catching machine such as yourself. It just goes to show that everyone needs the wisdom of Dr. H. Relative to Moses, scripture says that he was 80 years old before he received his calling from God. I\'ve got a ways to go yet before I can part Queens Creek.
    \n
\nRed Drum do not live anywhere. Like famous drummers everywhere they are nomadic and are shacking up with different grouperies all the time. They do spend a lot of time playing and hanging around Oyster Bars until closing time. Being a fan of Red Drummers I was speaking last night to Yolanda Spottail who was in the famous Parrots Swamp Honeyhole Bar. She told me that Mick Fleetred of Fleetred Mac left with not one, but two grouperies. Dienda Mullet and Ivana Shrimp. As to the best way to catch them I suggest hanging around school zones, especially in winter. Don\'t speed through there though. And use whatever free baits your latest sponsor is providing you.
    \n
\nFinally as to what is at the end of an oyster bed....it\'s the Red-board of course.

\nA question that has bewildered me for a couple of years now.
\nA fishing trip to famous watering hole of Mr. Raymond Vandam Wells.
\nWe were fishing for the elusive big mouth bass.
\nOn several occasions Mr. VanDam would snag and land a nice fish. I would follow him around like a puppy, noticing every lure he hooked to that little snap swivel. I would try to mimic his every move. But through trial and error and to no avail I could not get anything but those Crappie fighters, sun perch and horny heads. Then he threw across me and my yak whipped his rod down and around and drug out a 5lb big mouth bass. Needless to say that I was poed. (Not really) I thought for minute looked at my watch and headed for the truck.
\nThis has happened on other occasions also but we\'ll not go into those, you get my drift.
\nI love the chance to fish Mr. VanDam or be his photographer but I need some help. ??????

    Dear Mr. Echerd,
    \n
\nFishing is as much about confidence as ability. That said, each human is gifted in some degree more than others. Cam Newton is a gifted athlete. But we can all play football. Jimmy Johnson is a gifted driver. But we can all drive. Raymond Van Dam Wells is a gifted fisherman even though we can all fish. Sometimes we just have to accept these things....but not always. Sometimes you have to employ tactics developed by Dr. H to overcome our lack of God-given ability. Namely, we cheat. An example of this was the New River Trip a few years back when Raymond caught by far the largest smallie of the day. Judge H was conducting his review of photo entries from contestants at the time that Raymond arrived. It was 6:01 p.m. Raymond was immediately disqualified for missing the \'weigh in\' deadline as specified in the non existing rule book. Granted it\'s hard to do this to a guy as nice as Raymond, but all\'s fair in love, war and fishing. At another New River trip, Dr. H caught a nice smallie (a rarity in itself), gave it to young Pondhopper (who was about 12 at the time) and took his picture with it. Guess who beat Ray out on that trip? If it makes you feel better I\'m sure you\'re a better banjo player than Ray is. You may want to start fishing with less gifted fishermen to avoid damage to your ego. I\'m available.

    Dear Mr. Big,
    \n
\nYou are referring to the LATE Vegas Vinnie who met his demise at Butner Prison following the rainout of last years New River Event.
    \n
\nThere is absolutely no truth to the Jimmy Hoffa burial in the Yadkin River chain of lakes. He\'s in the Catawba.

    Dear FF,
    \n
\nI am glad to see we have started focusing on medical issues. RouseD\'s cold, Papa Dave\'s back injury, albeit second hand news and now the common, yet dreaded chronic skunkitis at cold temperatures. There are three known cures. The first involves a winter foray to Mexico\'s Yucatan Peninsula. There you can rid the skunk with a tin can and baling wire. Second is a difficult medicine to endure. Complete abstinence from fishing until May. I do not recommend this alternative due to the side effects which include false casting with a shovel handle in Walmart; tying double uni-knots with the tails of both your dogs and dumping your kids goldfish in the tub and fishing topwater with a back brush, floss and a Chug Bug imitation carved from Ivory soap. The 3rd and my personal favorite is inviting Jamie Lee Pressley to accompany you. You won\'t care about not catching fish then....

    \n
\n1. Do fish feel pain? I have never heard a trout scream, laugh at my offerings maybe, but never scream, I have also had a catfish growl at me, but was it screaming
    \n
\n2. Did having the equivalent population of Spokane, WA floating down the New River have any affect on the success of my first, ( and only) Red X float trip ? I remember it well. Froggy Waters tried to take out some of the participants ( Me ) with a sinking kayak. I think he should be disqualified for any future prizes.\r\n

    Dear Mr. Slick,
    \n
\nFish do NOT feel pain. FisherMEN are another story. I was raised trout fishing and also have never heard one scream or even whimper. I have, however, heard Mrs. H scream as I fumbled around for my hip boots in the wee hours. I\'ve felt similar pain when she\'s demanded to know what \'Orvis\' is and why the credit card balance went up $600. I\'ve also felt pain accessing remote waters a billy goat would shy away from and having ice cold New York waters pour into my waders...in January...3 miles from the car. And your catfish was not screaming, it was purring. They like to be scratched around the pectoral fins.
    \n
\nI also feel pain at the mention of the second half of that particular float. In 15 years of floating that river I had never seen that. It looked like a floating rave party. As far as Froggy, he gave you a leaky yak as he saw you a threat. It is not the first time I have seen him do whatever it takes to gain advantage. He once told a first timer from down east that a 12 foot surf rod spooled with 80 pound mono, a wire leader and 6 oz. of weight was the way to go on the New.

    \r\n Dear Dr. H,
    \n
\nMy friend just had a a bouncing baby girl (7 lbs 4 oz.. ). I was invited to the bi-gender baby shower but was fortunate enough to come down with too much work. Not having shown up for the shower and wanting to do something nice for them.. I was thinking of a remington 870 as a welcome to being a dad of a future teen age girl gift (knowing myself as a teenager.. this seems like a good idea). any input would be welcome.\r\n

    Dear Dr. H,
    \n
\nMy friend just had a a bouncing baby girl (7 lbs 4 oz.. ). I was invited to the bi-gender baby shower but was fortunate enough to come down with too much work. Not having shown up for the shower and wanting to do something nice for them.. I was thinking of a remington 870 as a welcome to being a dad of a future teen age girl gift (knowing myself as a teenager.. this seems like a good idea). any input would be welcome.
    \r\n \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n
    Dear Mr. AMC Gremlin,
    \n
\nWhile I like your thought process I do not believe the 870 to be an appropriate gift. While a venerable proven weapon, it does not sound as if it would be useful to the child\'s father. Any man who would attend a baby shower replete with a bevy of hens clacking their gums over Pampers and Enfamil is of questionable gender himself. You would be contributing more to the child\'s chastity by teaching her to shoot when she is old enough as I have done with my now 19 year old daughter. Then she can take care of herself while her dad is home crocheting. A Sig P238 .380 or a Walther PPK .22 for the young lass would be a fine gift indeed.
    \n
\nAs for your missing the event due to \'work\'....I hope the fish were biting!

    Dear Mr. Mo,
    \n
    \nThank you for writing \'Ask Dr. H\'.
    \n
\nQuestion 1. No, I cannot see into the future. In fact at my age I can\'t even see in the present. I tie leaders onto my braid by feel. But I can still answer your query regarding how many Red X meet and greets there will be this year.......not enough.
    \n
\nQuestion 2. According to the inventor of the internet and spokesperson for both the Popiel Pocket Fisherman and The Helicopter Lure, Al Gore, says that the first signs of Global Worming have begun already. \'Have you noticed all the robins recently showing up in your yard?\' said Al. \'This is proof that the change in the environment has caused billions of worms to move towards the surface, devouring everything in site with their little worm mouths\'. \'Even more scary are the numbers currently visible after rain and there are Giant flesh eating worms that come out only at night on our lawns only we can\'t see them because, you know, its dark out.\'

    Dear Hans Solo,
    \n
\nThe Captain is an airline pilot as the Good Ship in the famous Shirley Temple song is a plane and not a boat. I took a trip of a similar nature at a Jefferson Starship concert once. That one took me to The Police....but not the band featuring Sting.

    \r\n Dear Dr. H,
    \n
\nIs a bad day fishing truly better than a good day at work? I am pretty sure this is not true, at least in my case. Sometimes when i go fishing, i will get upset before i can even exit my vehicle. (i.e.; too many boats at the ramp, wind is blowing too hard, or i forgot something important at home.) Other than that, you always have the noob tourist sitting in my spot, constant heckling by the DMF when they should be heckling real criminals, and those other guys who choose to use large sections of rope (the "n" word) to catch fish, after they scare them in to a tight circle using the noisiest methods possible.
    \n
\nTake into effect: i work in the medical field, so a good day at work can be mind blowingly wonderful. Imagine getting paid to do almost nothing but look good in a pair of pajamas, while being surrounded by beautiful women all day who endlessly fight for your attention. That is just a normal day at work, so a good day could be epic.\r\n

    Dear Mr. Whitey,
    \n
\nIt sounds like you have a great job, no doubt about it. This is important considering the amount of our lives we spend working (well, except for NCpierman). But better than fishing? I don\'t care if Sofia Vegara in a nurses outfit wants to elevate my heart rate...I still prefer fishing. I do understand your frustrations though. I suggest you raid the pharmacy at your workplace to alter your perspective.

\nIf 2 Mergansers are fishing it is possible to kill them both by skipping a flat stone. But they taste like Gulp.

    Dear Mr. Skiff
    \n
\nRecognize that there are already chickens on Both sides of the road. Your particular chicken however, crossed when the new KFC on his side opened.

    \n
\n I would have never put anyone on the water knowing the kayak had an issue . I am extremely sorry for that .. I would be glad to offer a float on my local waters for smallies largies or any of the many of the other species I have access to around here. As an apology .... but to the comments of misleading or falsified statements on marlin sized gear being needed. Guilty as charged. I might have tried to paddle in front of sir vandam wells a time or two to maintain a lead on him . possibly . I could also have recommended others carry six rods and use 10" soft plastics . But hopefully in comical fun\r\n

But hopefully in comical fun
