Was finishing up a bad round of golf today at the NBGCC and noticed stripers rolling at the surface and eating topwater, so I raced home around 5:45 and got a few rods. Got back and threw everything I had in the truck at them: stick baits, mirrolures, super spooks, bucktails tipped with gulp, lead heads with jerk shad patters, etc. Nothing was working. I think I had one strike, but couldn't tell. They seemed perfectly content to cruise around and sip the surface of the water from time to time. ****, I'd have been better off using a cast net!
Any of you guys fishing the Neuse/Trent have better luck today? Any advice?
Glad you didn't if they were in fact Gar, which it does sound like to me, but I wasn't there to see so I'm not gonna claim it to be something that I didn't see... From what you said though it sounds just like a Gar.
