Default Reddies River Trout Report (Jan. 25 2015)

I hit the Reddies today for the first time. I haven't heard much about it overall and certainly not recently.

Got in the waters later than desired which ended up being around lunch time. We fished until about 4 then started our journey back to the truck.

Lost a few flies due to snagging a million times but it's all good. Fishing is fishing. Started to add some tippet and realized I only had a little left on the spool. Luckily I remembered that last week on the Ararat I found a partial spool on a big rock that evidently someone had left or lost. It was 5x....I've been using 4x. It worked superbly.

My brother and I had a great day on the water. He caught his first three trout on the long rod. 2 brookies and a bow! Awesome! I landed 5 including a nice bow and missed another good take.

Started with a slumpbuster to no avail but I did lose a couple. Switched to something a little smaller. Woolly bugger in black. Matt caught all his on an olive woolly bugger. We used bead and cone heads. Drifting these things were working! At one point we caught 6 fish in less than half an hour. I need to get back up there and fish the portions I couldn't get to today.

Not a ton of fish but I've fished a lot longer for a lot less. Good fishin fellas.

Another great report! Just out of curiosity, was that spool of tipper on a rock in the middle of the river, and above where the creek comes in?

Yes it was on a rock in the middle of the river. Not sure about the creek though. I thought it might be yours. I meant to ask when I posted that trip report if anyone left it but I forgot. I think the brand is scientific anglers. If it's yours pm me your address and I'll get it to ya. It'll be short a few feet but I guess that's the finders fee. Ha.

Some pretty trout there Wade. I need to get back into some trout fishing, it's been a while. Don't fly fish, we used to do well with ultra light spinning tackle, and Panther Martins and Rooster Tails.

Probably is mine, I sat down on that big rock to tie on a new leader after donating a couple of flies to the trees. No big deal on sending it to me. If you think about it when you come to the fly tying class you can leave it with Richard if he doesn't mind holding it. If not, no big deal I'll just give him a little more of my money.

I'll drop it off with Richard if I can remember. He gets plenty of my money too, don't worry. When I found it I thought to myself: "I bet this belongs to someone that I've talked to about the Ararat." Ironically I was correct.

Well....after the "finders fee"...and the "transportation, hold and security fees"...it may be just an empty spool when you finally get it back in your possession. Don't worry wademaster, the money I get from you is "invested wisely."

However, this does bring up a good reminder for folks. There have been many instances when someone sits down to tie a fly on...and then leaves their fly box behind. Than can be a tad expensive whether you have bought them or tied them. I had a customer that left his vest hanging on limb when they drove off. He got the vest back but the fly boxes with a hundred or more of his flies were gone. Another guy left his $1000 dollar Orvis outfit in the bushes at the canoe takeout. He called me an hour later and I went back....fortunately it was still there.

So...consider putting a name, phone and address on stuff...especially fly boxes. Many times they have made it back to the owner when he could be identified.

If I ever lost a $1k bill like that, you probably would see a grown man cry.

Nice report and some great catches. Man you are grooving on that fly rod.... Bet you wonder how you ever got along without one.

Correction. It is Cortland. I've got it in with my tying stuff so I won't be able to forget it. Glad it'll get back to its rightful owner. Ha.

That's nice work. Especially with how the weather has been.
