    Default Mountain Bass Fishing!

Floated the French Broad river on Saturday, spent most of the morning looking for a musky, withou a take. Did catch the first pig smallie of the day on a 6in. RiverSea S wave rainbow trout swimbait. Switched to fishing for smallies around 1ish and picked up another three quality fish by the time we got off the river. The fish were holding in heavy runs and taking a finesse craw bait on a jig head.

Floated the Pigeon river today looking to snag a few nice smallies, but only found 4 little ones. But, we did hook up with three trophy largemouth river bass by surprise!!! They were all taken on the same finesse jig and plastic craw bait, dragged slowly on the bottom of deeper runs. The bream were nipping at our plastics almost every cast. We caught a few for fun on a spinner. So glad it's Spring and fish are biting again!!

Nice fish! Didn't realize the Pigeon had largemouths remotely approaching that size!

jimsnores, The bass are definitely biting in the mountain waters already, both river temps are currently in the mid 50's which is spot on for them to start pre-spawn feeding.

tkbone, I have caught a few smaller largemouths in the Pigeon and some solid fish in Waterville Lake, but we were also somewhat surprised by the size of those fish in that section of river. It's kinda a remote not heavily fished part of the Pigoen river that we found those bass. (not far from Canton)

Nckingfisher, Wademaster is correct there are some really nice smallies in WNC if you know where to look!! That fish might have gone 2 1/2 lbs. but we have caught some in that part of the French up to 4lb. and hooked some even larger that pulled off.
