Default Vanceboro Rotary Club Panfish Tournament (4/29/2017)

    Category: Freshwater Tournaments

    Website link for more information:

The Vanceboro Rotary Club and the local Boy Scout Troop up there will be having there annual panfish tournament Saturday April 29th, rain or shine. Entry fee is $40 per team and 1st place is 40% of total entries. It's a 15 fish aggregate weight and only blue bream, shellcrackers and red breast are weigh-able fish.

I'm not affiliated with those folks, but I've fished it for several years, always had a good time. If you like to bream fish and want to fish a good tournament, this one is it. They give away a lot of door prizes, have a good turn out and you typically see some really nice fish caught.

They usually put in at Cowpen Landing.

jbar. You can sign up the day of the tournament at the landing, however if you call that number and give them a mailing address, he'll mail you an entry form. ( usually there's a discount for entering prior to a certain date)

just a bump to the top.... I got my entry form this past Saturday... Looks like 1st place will be at least $350.00, that's pretty decent money for something we all love to do.

    Jack:

Thanks for the post. Got my registration form delivered yesterday so I am filling it out today.
Realize you did not feel well Sat but were you able to do any bream scouting?
Dennis is planning to fish the tournament also and we are considering trailering the boat to the Glen Bernie area, can we do that? Are we restricted where to fish?
Big time looking forward to the event!!!!

Charles, you have to put in at the Cowpen landing Ramp, to my knowledge. You can fish anywhere you like, as long as you can access it from that starting point, and make it back to the way in on time.

They need to change the rules to accommodate kayak fisherman. Tough to paddle very far on the Neuse.

My partner and I ended up winning, with 12.98lbs. Second place was very close, and they had 12.7 something. All of our fish came out of the Neuse. We were fortunate enough to catch 13 really good shellcrackers, with the biggest being just over a pound and a quarter.

Wow! I was wondering if you'd won. Care to share technique and bait used?

Rooster, we found those fish a couple weeks back, however last week we fished the Brice's Creek tournament and didn't catch but 1 really small one. We could smell the fish really strongly in the area we were fishing then, so we decided to go back and make it point to find them yesterday. The fish had moved about a hundred yards or so, from water that was about 8' deep to water that was about 2' deep. We fished right in the bushes with red worms under a cork. The shellcrackers are doing their thing right now, most of what we caught were the males. I'm guessing the big females laid out last week, and the males we caught were hanging around guarding the eggs. These fish were not even remotely close in size to what we caught 2-3 weeks ago. We had some that were pushing 2 lbs then. Saw some bigger bream caught off the bed in the Old Town Lake area by a couple of my good friends.

Bumped this and changed the date to reflect this year's tournament date. It's 4/29 if anyone is interested.
