Default Tough day, but we found a few crappie

Went and fished Norman yesterday with my dad, brother, father-in-law, and my oldest son. We were hoping for a cooler full of crappies at the end of the day, but we still haven't been able to figure out a consistent pattern for this water. We slow trolled, keeping the baits tight on the bottom, and focused on the creek channel, points, and humps. The wind made things somewhat difficult, but not impossible. A little after lunch time we found a big school of perch back up the creek a ways. We just set the anchor out and let my son catch his fill. We did pick a couple of crappie out of the crowd there. The crappie bites were very subtle yesterday. You really had to watch the rod tips to pick them up.

We had to cull through about 20 white perch for every crappie we caught, but we ended up bringing home a few. I think we kept 6 crappie, and about 8-10 decent sized perch. The few crappie we did catch were at least quality fish.

Really nice slabs! They have been on my mind but haven't really had time to get on them. Should take my oldest and try again soon also.

If I'm remembering right, only 1 or 2 had eggs. I didn't clean any of them though, or I'd probably remember better. My dad and brother pulled fillet duty on these while I cleaned up other stuff.

Sounds and looks like a great day with family on the water. Nice slabs are the bonus for all to share.

Any time you can put that kind of day together for a kid, it's been a success. Way to go!! Nice crappie!
