Ok, the short story..

Gear- 10 ft ugly stick with a cardinal 30 / anchor rod (yep- i need a bigger reel)
5'6" ande 20-40 lb rod with a Shimano baitrunner 6000 / fighting rod

I learned what I could from youtube, and John on the pier taught me the rest. (thanks!)

I was just about to head home and pull my anchor rod when this guy tried to spool me at 350 yds! I could see my spool! Was a team effort from all the fisherman on the pier to help me hook and land this fish!

I don't see an Album with your username in the Photos gallery so I assume you just attached the photos. If you upload the photos in the Photo gallery first you have the option of rotating them. Then use the links from the gallery to place them in the thread post.

Well done. That's a great first day. I've always had good luck offshore for kings, but I've tried a solid 10-12 days pier fishing for kings without catching one.

what did you catch him on?

about a 1.5 lb blue.. 3 hook rig 2 in back with 1 in anus.. coffee wire and matte hooks.. And a whole heep of luck. oh and i still have the rope John showed me to tie my rod down with.. I will be using it again
