3 days of kayaking on the coast

I have the August 1st -3rd off and plan to spend it on the kayak. I've been in a slump as of late and I'm hoping to break out of it this weekend. I'm trying to plan my days but there are too many options. Pamlico sound? Swansboro marshes and creeks? Morehead/ Atlantic beach? Neuse ? I've been hearing fish stories from them all. Think I'll start somewhere around Emerald Isle or Swansboro on Saturday.

Please let us know how it goes.

If I haven't caught anything by Monday morning I'm going to head to the family farm and fish the river. There are some monster bowfin there and I'd like to get one on the yak.

Well day one did not go as planned. I had everything loaded the night before so we could just get up and go. We wake up and are ready but keys are nowhere to be found. Hour later we finally find the keys(under a pack of toilet paper, might have been a sign) and we are on our way. We get to the launch and is is rather busy with boats. We get launched and paddling toward the first spot when a boat comes by and zooms by us and Around the flat and oyster bar I was headed to. Then they turn around and head back out by us again and out of sight. We set up there any ways in hopes the fish settle and return to the area. I decided to throw a top water plug and on the 3rd cast I got a wind knot . There wasn't much wind so it must have been in there a while. I worked it out but some how the line I peeled off to get to it had wrapped around my lure, the paddle and me. Frustrated I just cut it all out and retied. Work the area with top water and got one sniff. I tried to tough it out but without a bite over the the next hour I paddled back to the truck. I got back to the truck and loaded in recorded time and now all is well as I sit here planning for tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have some pics of flounder to post tomorrow.

After 1 hour of fishing the last thing on my mind is quitting. I have a tough time quitting after 5 hours of fishing even if it's slow.

We were out there 4 hours total. Had the wife with me so had to compromise. Plus I was starting not to feel so well. That greasy biscuit for breakfast was giving me some trouble. Today has been a beautiful day. No fish yet though.
I put in my time today. It was a beautiful morning. I was surprised I didn't see anyone on the water. I started off with a skitter walk. No takers. Switched to a spook jr. And hooked up on 2nd cast. Didn't seem to have the shoulders of a red. Lots of head shaking and then came loose. Had one more bite on the spook but didn't hook up. Retied a few other baits with the same success. So I got the cast net out and caught 6 mullet. 5 mullet were released in harmed. One was released with a pierced lip. It got warm out there at one point idk if the wind switch direction or just died but the slight breeze from the morning went away. When I finished off my rations I decided to pack it up. The wife and I then went to a safe location to practice deep water re-entry on the kayaks. We are both new to kayaking and thought it be a good time we practice it. The wife got it it first try. It took me a few more times as I kept falling off. When we both were able to get back in the yack flawlessly we went on home. Good day on the water. Just one more day to go.
