I came out of hibernation, grabbed my poles and headed into the wind. With sand in my teeth, I cast into the Carolina Beach surf. As the blowing sand bit my legs, I hoped the fish didn't notice.

My bait was left over from last year (I hoped frozen) and wasn't fit to eat, I guess. The surf was too rough for man or beast (even fishes).

The beach was covered with 'sand bathers' and this lone fisherperson trying to get a jump on the season.

Two hours of sandblasting convienced me it was time to leave the fish alone.

As I drove off the beach, someone asked me what I got..........my response was.... "OUT OF THE HOUSE"!

IT GOT MY HEART STARTED!

It might be a little early as far as water temps go but when the air is 80 you just gotta go anyway. It won't be long now til things are wide open. l had rather get the jump on the season than have it get the jump on me. AL
