Looking into purchasing a tandem kayak that is also easily converted into a solo. I've looked at 2 so far:
Ocean Kayak (Malibu Two XL) Also have an angler version but I can rig an XL to my liking maybe.
Pros: Weight capacity 450-500lbs.
Cons: Solo paddling will be difficult from the back? Can a rudder be rigged? Only 13.4', I'm 6'.
Native Watercraft (Magic 14.5 Tandem)
Pros: Easily adjustable for solo. Plug and play system. Great seating.
Cons: Weight capacity of only 400lbs. (I am 6' 225. With my wife and/or daughter and gear, I will be under but with a buddy, gear, beverages and 50 pounds of fish, will be pushing that weight limit).
They will be used for fishing (Slocum, Haystacks, White Oak) carrying my 2 1/2 year old and wife sometimes. Stabilty and comfort (Leg room and dryness) is my main concerns considering my precious cargo! If anyone has had any experience with either, please let me know.
Possibly selling my Malibu X-Treme fully loaded. Great kayak but I don't need two.
