I've gotten infatuated with the idea of catching a false albacore from the surf. I know it happens occasionally. I'll be fishing Emerald Isle for the next two months.

I've got a few questions:

1. Are they commonly caught from the beach in this area during November?

2. What is the best artificial bait

3. What is the best reel/ line ? One assuming I need a big reel and lots of line

4. Tactics? Time of day? Are there any weather clues that may make it more likely to find them ?

5. Anything else?

It does happen. Metal ripped fast. Braid 10-20lb. 300 yards of it. Good drag system. Watch up and down the beach, be ready...

Narrow casting spoons similar to the Stingsilvers are all you need. Look for diving gulls and terns (not pelicans). Best bet would be an inlet. The inside of Shackleford at Beaufort inlet can be good. Too bad the new ferry operators run such limited hours.

Bring extra spoons, lot's of cut offs this weekend from Bluefish. ........ ICM

What can help with the bite offs is to tie about a 6" surgeon's loop in the end of your line for a bite tippet and then use the doubled line to tie to the lure. Blues will usually cut one but not both. Re-tie when it starts to look frayed. Quick and easy.
