I have known there were a lot of small lakes within a short drive of Greensboro. The other day I done some map searching and counted at least 14 different lakes.
I really like fishing small lakes, so what are some that are hidden gems?

I have fished:
Mackintosh
Cammack
Reidsville
Oak Hollow
High Point City Lake

Brandt, Townsend, Higgins chain on North end of Greensboro. I fished Lake Jeannette back before there were any houses on it and the Guilford Wildlife Club was the way to access it. I have no idea how that works now, I think it's gotten all chewed up by the real estate / neighborhood phenomenon, but back in the day it had some bass in it.

This is pretty much it. Lake Jeanette is GWC members only but has slightly better fishing than the city lakes due to less pressure. A couple park ponds around town but no boats allowed. Lake higgins is small and so is Jeanette about 300 acres, Brandt is 800 acres, and townsend is bigger maybe 1500 acres. Also dont forget Randelman lake but its kinda big. Let me know if you want to fish Jeanette sometime im a member.

Don't forget Southwest park of Randleman. Just south of Greensboro near Groometown and Kivette.

Rat don't forget Graham-Mebane lake and Lake Micheal over in Mebane. Although I don't think Lake Micheal has too much to offer from what I hear.....but if theres a bass there you and Junior can find it.lol

If Randleman qualifies as being close enough for what you're talking about, then by all means... it's a great lake these days.

I didn't know GWC was still there... I had been told the lake was only accessible by residents on the lake now. Out of curiosity, what is the membership fee annually nowadays? I used to have a membership out there when I was a kid; I did a paper route on my bike every morning from when I was 12 to 15 years old, primarily to pay for the membership so I could get dropped off on Saturdays and fish. Lot of memories there. What do they charge these days? Just curious.

Yeah their were some ups and downs a few years back with GWC they are back but have a limited # of memberships only 300. There annual fee is $100, the wildlife club is now in a dutch barn in the parking lot of the marina. They are full with members now im #298 or something, but you can still apply ask for Walt.

Brandt is an excellent lake. Stumpfields, humps and laydowns galore. Good bass population.

I dont know about a good population but yes townsend has hybrids. Lake jeanette stocked hybrids 10 years ago but a few years ago the lake ran high and they all swam over the spillway into townsend. According to the oldtimers the last hybrid caught in jeanette was 3-4 years ago and it was a biggin.

Yeah brandt is good for bass but a good place to hit a stump with a bigger boat, higgins for cats, and i dont really fish townsend often enough to know it that well.

Brandt is excellent, but do watch your depth. C rigs and cranks kill 'em out there, and the lake has some quality fish too, my two biggest there are 8 pounds and 7 pounds 4 oz.

Higgins is small but holds some nice bass. Catfish in all three, Brandt, Higgins, Townsend. Camack in Alamance Co is overlooked. A friend took me there a couple years ago, caught nice variety of decent bass, crappie, even white bass.

Belews near Stokesdale and Farmers in Yanceyville. Also ditto on cammack some nice fish in there.

I heard the same thing. Fished it a few times, caught a few fish, one seven pounder. Heard stories of giants there, and cousin Rick got a nine there. But bites were few back then. This was late 90's and early 2000's. Haven't been there in ten years or more.

Don't even have Farmer's on it, that might be #15.
