You are right it is brackish down near Willmington, i was refering to further inland. But even closer to Willmington it does hold some very good bass in some of the side creeks. Never seen anyone catch a trout there though but I may be fishing to far inland. I a usually up near Leland when I fish there. As far as the Neuse river goes from what I have heard there are some creeks off of it that are fresh water. But I said before I have never fished it personally just going off of what I have been told.

It's a bit of a drive but the Cape Fear river down in willmington has always produced for me. There is always the Neuse River as well which is closer to Jax. but I have never fished it personally. I have heard some good things about it though.
