My oldest son needs a new kayak, he's about 6'2" and 170 lbs, and has outgrown his old fiberglass touring kayak.

I found this new for under $300.... Perception Conduit 12. He's mainly looking for something for the lake and maybe some trips on the new river.

Fishing is not likely.... He's more of a paddling guy.

I can't speak to this particular model, rather just the brand. I like Perception Kayaks because of the quality of plastic they are made of for the money. I have a 10 foot Perception Sport and have found the plastic to be very forgiving when I go over a rock or submerged tree. My model has taken a beating given my kayaking skills!!!

Does the same place have a smoking deal on the 13? It looks like a much better boat for a pure paddler. It's sort of surprising to me that they are the same "line". The 12 looks like very nearly the same boat as the Heritage that nut in MA goes tuna fishing in. Decent recreational boat. He would probably like it, especially for that price. A slightly narrower longer boat would extend his daily range substantially if he gets into touring, though.
