I picked up a buzz plug made by jitterbug folks. I have had a couple of good strikes at it but haven't yet hooked a fish on it. Thing is huge has a frog profile and displaces a bit of water plus I can toss it a mile. However no luck getting a hook set. Anyone try it before and have any suggestions on getting hookups?

I saw it on Bill Dance and thought it was a good idea but he left out a few important parts you didn't. Yes I like the idea of a floating buzz bait. I like that the hooks ride behind and point up to cut down on weed problems. But like you said it is rather large and weighs one ounce. I don't have a rod that can throw one ounce lures. Also I would never trust any hooks on a lure from Arbogast especially for the size fish it would attract. If they made one that weighed only 1/2oz, I would switch it out with frog hooks and add some green or white marabou and hookup like a frog... which means I'd need to wear a helmet and face shield.

I will have to pick up a black one this winter when I make my annual lure purchase. I did not know/remember it came with predrilled holes in the blades, another plus I would think. Thanks Jeffonc! :D

The big one I can toss a mile and really makes some nice frog noises. Haven't yet landed a fish on it but have had some swipes at it.

I haven't seen the design, but maybe adding a trailer hook would help.
I use weedless worm hooks for trailers on my buzzbaits. Made by Mustad I think. They have a springy wire weedguard extending from the eye to the barb.
