I recently purchased a Polar Skiff. The owner had a trolling motor installed but removed it prior to me seeing the boat and purchasing (apparently he spent $1200.00 for his trolling motor and planned to install it on his new boat)

Anyway, he left some sort of mount that was a piece of the trolling motor. I am hoping that someone can help me to identify this piece, what it's used for and if there is a benefit in to keeping it.

I need to purchase a trolling motor and not certain if this piece is needed.

That is a mounting puck used for quick installation/removal of your trolling motor. Since you're considering adding a trolling motor in the future you should keep it so you don't have to drill any new holes.

Is this mount for a specific brand of trolling motor?

Looks like an older style puck for a Minn Kota. I'm not sure if any of their new motors are still using that exact one or not, but that is the wrong one for an ipilot. They vary slightly in size between models.

I do not see any part numbers on it, was hoping to identify manufacturer and then determine the model(s) it will support. The former owner indicated that his trolling motor (which was not included) was less than 6 months old

Would a place like Bass Pro Shops know what I am speaking of when I give the puck size? Actually, would someone there know what a puck is? LOL

bass pro's website has a few listed for sale. if you look at the website there is a outdoor answer section for each product. There is a dimension chart listed on the pucks they sell so you can probably match them up that way...

also minnkota's website has the dimensions as well assuming that's what this one is.

I wouldn't count on Bass Pro knowing anything. Your best bet is to call Minn Kota

Whitesnake trolling motors use those quick mounts also. As everyone has said, check the measurements. Do you have the info from the last owner, call him? It's not an expensive piece. In the past the holes have lined up for me from various brands but that is my limited experience.

I'll have to call Jimmy's Marine to get that information. They serviced the boat for years so hopefully they will have more information.
