We are heading to Atlantic Beach at the end of December. Never been there this time a year. What is the fishing normally like for the surf? Are the piers open?

If you are surf fishing you should be able to catch a mix bag or drum and blues.

You might want to check with the Carolina Princess head boat in Moorehead City to see what their schedule is like this time of year.

The inlet at Ft Macon can be productive. Easy access to deep water as well as the jetty.

I fished the surf last weekend at Ft Fisher. 3 flounder, 2 blues and 20+ puffers. Not sure how different the results would be between the two locations. I heard there were some reds caught and a few trout.
