When will shrimp start making their way back in the creeks. I've read that the young shrimp use the creeks to mature but would think there would be adults using the creeks also. Here on BHI there are no tackle-bait shops. If you want to fish live or fresh bait you catch it or take a ferry ride to Southport and back(time and money). I don't own a boat so I'm dependent upon what I can catch with a net from dock or surf. I'm catching mullet frequently with the cast net but haven't seen the fist shrimp since late October. I've been catching whiting, blues, and sharks using mullet fishing the river side of the island and have caught a few trout and flounder using a jig with a pink and white curlytail fishing the creek. I haven't seen any drum caught out of the surf or creek. Sure they're nearby.

Those be the Juvies. The adult browns come in about 68 degrees and the whites a little later. The juvies come in late Late Feb. or early March. Once the water gets up to the mid sixties they start growing pretty fast. They will be eating size in the fall but they still have some growing left in them then.
