Hey guys,

Just curious to hear if anyone has gotten out to fish the Bear Island area recently...I'll be home in a few short weeks and am chomping at the bit to get the kayak out there again and continue my exploration of all the marshlands back there with a few boxes of flies and fly rods!

Hope all else is well by everyone.

JoeB, not yet. Though the weather picked up nice at the end of this week, my rack wasn't on the car and the wind was blowing 20-25 mph. This held true for yesterday, when I did get out, but at the North end of the White Oak River by the Stella boat ramp. Someone put a skunk in my new kayak's well up front. I chased him around the boat for about 3 hours, but he wouldn't jump in.

Shamless BUMP to the top. I'm home (as of 12 May) and thinking about heading out Friday mid-morning (have to go to the office for a bit first). Anyone been out around Bear Island recently? Not sure if I'll be launching form HBSP or if I'll try and do some searching on here and find some alternative launches.

Welcome Back Doc! Glad you are back safe and sound.

Let us know how you did!
Roger that. Looks like I'll be heading out sometime around 1000 and fishing the outgoing. I think I may try and find the Shell Rock Landing launch and try it out for the first time. I'll post up onced I return. If anyone else is going to be out there, look for a green Silverado with an orange OK Prowler and a few flyrods on the back!

No worries. I'll soon start block leave, and will be off until June 18th. The wife and I are going to the OBX 07-14 June (kayaks coming along, of course). I've got to get back into the swing of finding more fish in the triangle area.

Don't think I'll be getting out during those three days, as I'm heading to Durham to see the wife.:) I may try the same area on Tuesday as well, depnding on how the fishing/weather is in the area over the holiday weekend.

i did fish behind bear island saturday a.m. on a rising tide. bad weather day -- cold and rainy all morning. paddled from shell rock to the inlet, then east about 1/2 the length of the island, then worked my way back in the wind and rain. didn't see drum until the cloud cover started to break. even then, didn't see anywhere the number of drum i saw later near mhc/beaufort and emerald island. but prob had more to do with the weather than anything else. didn't catch a thing, but got a lot of exercise. :) i could hear the marines firing a heavy caliber machine gun all morning -- first time i've heard that -- it seemd very close, and had me kinda spooked. thought of that bumper sticker -- "if you hear banjos, paddle faster," except in this case it was machine gun fire that had me looking over my shoulder!
