What is a good pattern for a newbie fly maker. I just want to try to do one of these to see if I want to do more. Thanks.

Coach- The Wooly Bugger is probably the best pattern to get your feet wet with. It's the pattern that I first tied and it's the go to pattern for all types of fishing. It's pretty simple to tie and will give you an understanding and feel for the basic tying methods. To date I've caught Brim, Bass, and Trout on the Wooly Bugger and it works nationwide. Sign up for the Fly Fishing Clinic at the Pechman Fishing Center on January 13th on Raeford Road and you'll get chance to try them out on some trout.
