Mack - thanks for this article. I used to shad fish quite a bit but had not in a long time. I had to be down in Greenville today for work and tried one of your Tar River spots. It was a little slow, but landed a couple. For whatever it’s worth they seemed to be hitting spoons better than jigs today. I appreciate you sharing the info.

How and where to catch Shad (Poor Mans Tarpon) in North Carolina & SC
Hello Mack,
Thank you for posting this link. Great information here.
I do have a question please. For the Rocky Mt Mill dam boat ramp, is the water typically deep enough to navigate with a Jon boat equipped with a gas motor? I have not fished the Tar north of Washington. I frequently see reference that many locations on the Tar need higher than normal water flow to lunch a boat.

FYI. I was at Battle Park on Monday, and I noticed that the road to the boat ramp was closed, and they seemed to be working on the parking lot closest to the ramp. I was on foot and caught and released two nice Americans. The water level is pretty nice at the moment (not too high).

I use a long tail mudmotor in a boat at the Rocky Mount ramp. lots of rocks and shallow. if i was using an outboard there I would go sloooooow.

Hey CB, that is the location I meant. Shame the ramp is closed. Seems like that would be a good spot and save me some miles.

Maybe it will not be closed for long... it is prime time the next month, would be a shame if its closed for March.
