Went out to the pond for a couple of hours this morning..temp in upper 60's,dark and cloudy and there was a periodic light drizzle throughout the morning..Started out tossing a wacky rigged Senko with an o-ring to preserve the bait..within the first 10 minutes of my trip I tossed the senko next to one of my favorite laydowns and I felt something lightly take the bait..my line starts to move slowly maybe 15-20 inches..something is definitley there! then I felt the gulp! I apply the hook,FISH ON!my drag starts to peel as this hawg takes off in full throttle!this thing was a beast!it gave me a good 30 second fight and I was just getting it close to the bank when the bass decides to make a move for it!it takes off like a jet to the left with all its might and this fish was strong!my drag starts to squeel as it was literally pulling me around the bank!then it makes a jump for it about 1 ft out of water and spits my senko right back at me! AHHHH! I yelled as I stood there clueless for like a minute straight! I got a very good look at it and it was definitley pushing 5 pounds+!big ol'mouth! ah it was fun fighting it though!twice in a row ive had this problem with the o-ring on the senko..it really does preserve the bait bigtime but the hook-up ratio is no bueno!2 days ago I lost 4 bass in a row using the o-ring on the senko..I mean once in awhile a bass shakes off the wacky rig when I didnt use the o-ring so maybe its just coincidental..anyone else have that problem with the o-ring?any advice?one thing I notice with the o-ring is when you place the hook through the ring the hook is horizontal to the worm and without the ring the hook is vertical to the worm..anyhow I took the o-ring off for the rest of the trip and I did catch one much smaller bass about an hour later :)

We've all had them spit the bait back at us! Can't do anything but laugh. I've even caught the lure as it zipped back at me.

I don't fish wacky style Dawg, but you might try a Strike King Shim E Stick (about $4 for a bag of 5 at Wally World)...a senko style worm that's heavy with infused licorice scent. I rig it conventional weedless on a 2/0 worm hook. It casts very far weightless though I add one tiny (size 7) clamshot (BPS has them) about 6 inches above it to get it to slowly sink. Hook setting and bite detection is a breeze...especially with braid. Try one Dawg. You can thank me later!

haha..it happens! I probably lost a good 6 or 7 within the last month..about 4 of them being pretty decent in the 4-5lb range..todays was the biggest that I actually got to see..I can still see that bass jumping and shaking the hook!I guess im not going to rule out the o-ring completely I believe i'll experiment over time with different hooks,etc....

I had some of these in red color from a few years ago when I would pier fish..well from your advice I tried them today wacky rigged with an o-ring and it was much better!I only caught one bass but the hook-up was way better than the large wide gap hooks..im still going to experiment a bit and i'll continue to post updates ..thanks bud!

Not a fan of wacky rigging or circle hooks but I am a fan of gamkatsu hooks and big bass! I like to texas rig my senko's with a gamkastu EWG 3/0-5/0 hook... the super line hooks are way heavy duty. With smaller hooks and big bass IMO they have a tendency to flex especially with braided line which has no give.

Keep up the fishing I'm still after my 10 pound bass. I've caught hundreds and hundreds in the 6-7 lb class but never any bigger. Missed quite a few lunkers.

thanks for the advice fellas!
I like to use 3/0-4/0 gamakatsu or lazer sharp wide gap hooks and 20lb stealth braid..any brand senko type "stick bait" plastics will do..I noticed the yum dinger in watermelon/white pearl works wonders! somedays they will only attack one color as weird as it sounds! ive never used the o-ring until last week for the very first time..didnt really work out for me though

i use the wide gap finesse hooks by gamakatsu 2/0 3/0 4/0. depending on where im fishing and other factors. but they work well. i get better hook ups than even using circle hooks. they look similar to a circle hook. i think the fish notice them less as well.

im a huge fan of wacky rigged senkos. i mean its honestly one of the only ways i use plastics for bass. i never need anything else. lol

here is a link to them. best wacky rig hook to use imo.
