Waders, yes. Water is cold in summer. If the creek is labeled with NC Wildlife signs, it is public water. Watch the signs for baits to use, creel limits, and in some cases size.

The Tuckaseegee is "big" water. And it is delayed harvest water for a stretch. Should be able to wade it fine. Crowds are sometimes closer than just in sight. Weekdays are recomended. All of the creeks that redfish mentioned are good, especially the Davidson. I've been meaning to get back up in that area myself, the scenery alone is worth the trip.
