Report for the Jolly Roger Pier on Topsail Beach:

Well, with the water and weather conditions being so crazy over the past several weeks it has made the spanish pretty unpredictible. There have been some around and the ones they have caught have been nice ones with several 4lbers landed in the past week. The blues don't seem to mind, the choppers are in thick and have made for some fun on light pluging tackle, as well as hugh runs of the 1-3lb range fish.

Just wanted to update this report. Yesterday and today have produced some awsome fishing. The chopper blues have been thicker than I have ever seen them, lots and lots of fun on light tackle plugging outfits. I would estamate that there were over 50 choppers caught off the pier yesterday: the schools were turning the water purple they were so thick. We were sight casting to them and having a blast. The spanish finally showed in good numbers and size today. Still hoping the cobia haven't totaly by-pasted us in all this north wind that we have been having. Since they caught those three two weekends ago, the only ones we have seen have been small ones. Just waiting for the weather to give us a break, every time we get several days of consistant southerly winds the fish show up.

I talked to a buddy that's fishing Surf City Pier this week. He said there were some Choppers around. But the wind has been blowing pretty good, and the water clarity has gone to the dogs there. Hope all that changes before Monday...........I'll be down for 2 weeks!! Hey, there hasn't been a King caught there as of Wednesday, maybe I'll get the first one again this year.

We caught the third King of the year yesterday on the Jolly Roger right before the water started to get muddy; it was a 17lber.

grrrrr I'll be so glad when this weekend is over and my Inlaws are GONE! I'm loading up the piercart and heading east!!
