I bought bought an old fly fishing bag at the pawn shop and it had a 10+ bubble rigs inside.

Googled bubble rig today and found it's a good method for catching spanish down in florida:

Well, I've got my usual gotchas and sabikis packed up for some pier action this weekend. And yes, i'll experiment with some bubble action too but dont have as much faith in it being a new concept to me. SO..Has anyone heard/seen folks throwing bubble rigs on NC piers? thanks

I have used bubble rigs of a sort with streamers from the pier with reasonable success. I used the kind of bubble with the rubber tubing in the middle that you run your line through and then twist the tubing to set the depth. You can put water in them also, which you need to cast into the wind. I just wanted to fish with the streamers I tied. I was catching mostly small blues when I did that.

My father lives in Destin and uses these sometimes. As I recall he catches spanish and trout with them in the bayous. Haven't seen them in NC.

Thanks for replies. Good to know nc fish have at least been caught with the rig.
I can see pairing the bubble with a sabiki rig working - I'll swap a lead weight behind sabiki for a bubble weight leading the sabiki. I sorta like the idea of fishing on surface with the bubble creating topwater commotion and hoping for fish to bust it up. hmmm...
