Caught two largemouth bass the other evening on live golden shiners.

One went about 14 inches and the other maybe 9 inches I'd guess.

Released them both.

How big are the shiners you're using? The only shiners I'm familiar with are the 8-12" monsters I've seen them use on TV in Florida...

2-3 inch golden shiners I get from Franklins on Haywood Road in West Asheville.

They sell 'medium' and 'large' golden shiners.

I guess the large usually run 3-5 inches.

I just tossed them out on unweighted circle hooks in the shady areas of down trees and bushes that lined this pond. Caught the two bass within a minute of each other but that was it.

No other strikes or bites from bass. Did see a number of sunfish though. None big enough to take my shiners.
