Buying first kayak... Good deal or No?

I'm looking to get into kayak fishing and stumbled upon this deal on craigslist, which I've been monitoring for months. Future beach trophy 126, looks to be in good shape and comes with a roof rack and a lot of accessories. What do you guys think? I'd probably prefer SOT, but the cockpit looks pretty roomy and what not. I'd be using it mostly on rivers and smaller ponds and lakes.

I think the price is mostly fair, I'd probably try to work down a little though. Has anyone fished out of this kayak? I just really want to get out on the water and have something a smaller guy like me can easily cartop and transport. Also, I drive a saturn ion mostly.... now I do have larger vehicles I can use that would certainly work better, but could I cartop this on such a small car?

I appreciate any answers and input! First time buyer, but not entirely a kayak newb, I've done several float trips and the like.

Edit: Wow, lots of new deals seem to have popped up lately. Would this one be a better idea?

Seems like a better yak, but it also doesn't come with the roof rack which hurts.

i would compare these first. This is Get outdoors shop in Greensboro. Compare weight for sure if you are a smaller guy and will be car topping.

Dan
Cant buy the yak for that unless its on sale. Not a bad deal i dont think.

Check out these at Basspro if you really favor a SOT $400 plus a paddle and life jacket i. A couple of pool noodles and some rope and you can car top a kayak.

I fish out of the same kayak. bought mine brand new from dicks on sale for under $300. I would offer the guy $350 if i was looking to buy.

Depends on how big you are. I'm 5'9 185lbs. It can be a little tight. On the other hand it's real stable and easy to handle.
You say you would probably prefer SOT. To me that means you really want one but would settle for this. I got a SIK but eventually want both for different trips. If you really want a SOT, get a SOT. They are usually more convenient if fishing is your primary or only purpose.

Agreed ^^
If you are buying for fishing, and are leaning towards a sot then wait it out and get a sot. I started with a sik and the next year bought a sot because i wasnt crazy about the lack of useable space.

It worked out because now i have a buddy boat but if thats not something you are looking for dont settle, especially just to jump on a mediocre deal at best.

Yeah maybe I will wait for a good SOT deal to pop up. I think I will stick to used on craigslist, though. I think I can get more kayak for my buck than the get outdoors deals. The Bass Pro yak seems like a good option though. Trying to stay under $500.
http://eastnc.craigslist.org/spo/4453615317.html that's one you can use and still get your $$ back out of when you move up!

That does look like a great deal... Perfect, actually. I'm in Winston though, so getting it might be tough. I'll contact him.

Edit: Just searched them and they're on sale at Dick's for $230. I might be better off getting it from them. It would be new, wouldn't have to drive as far, and I think I have coupons and giftcards. Maybe I'll go check it out.
I had no idea they were selling that cheap...

Yeah, I didn't either haha. Reviews seem to be pretty decent. And like you said, once I'm ready to upgrade I could probably get a lot of my money back selling it.
