Cabin Fever Abated

I got Monday off and wanted/needed to wet a line. Cold weather calls for cold water fishing so debated if I wanted to wade in the cold rain or clear below freezing weather. I chose the latter so layered up and made the 3 hour drive today.

Got to the river around 10am. Haven't been here in about 3 years... Oh, looks like Helene wiped out the little Mitchell House bridge. Memory back to 2018 when the Kapps Mill dam got busted by Alberto.

Took a little bit of effort pulling the wader over all the layers and the 3 pairs of socks was a bit cramp. Haha

The tenkara rod was a good choice to not have to deal with ice on the guides and freezing fingers. Knotting the tiny 20/22 flies with numbing fingers was a challenge for sure. Dropped a couple flies in the water because I couldn't feel them while tying. Ugh.

It was a challenge at the beginning but finally able to trick a few before the sun got behind the tree line. Burrrrrr... spring can't come soon enough. Tight lines everyone.

Here are one of each that got to the net.

Way to go!! Tying a 20 size in perfect conditions is way beyond my old age ambitions and eyesight.* As my dad said about my hair,"enjoy it while you have it". You might not have too long.
Applies to about all of life. So go, make good memories in 2025.
*I gave away everything above size 16 years ago.

Haha. I'm sure you would have a chuckle if you saw me on the water fumbling with fly and tippet 5 inches from my face. Thank goodness for the Davy knot. I tried using the magnifying cap clip and couldn't get used to it. I'm afraid I'll be joining you soon in this regard.
