Any advice / input on a body of water that allows wilderness camping along its banks, preferably in central NC? Not allowed on Jordan or Harris.....

ZKY1812, those are state park camping areas, aren't they? I can do that at Jordan. I'm looking for more primitive camping... just pull over and put up a hammock, cook some fish, etc...

no fires allowed on Falls except in campgrounds and they will ticket you.

Google maps is your friend. Where are you located? Scout troop used to float from lillington to erwin and there is a good sized island near the take out. Another option is merchants mill. You get to camp on platforms or an island in a swamp loaded with alligators. Beautiful place and one of my favorite memories.

Two of my favorites are Eno River State Park and Medoc Mountain State Park. Eno River has very good hiking trails and primitive camping. Medoc doesn't have primitive camping, but offers great fishing/kayaking and excellent hiking trails.

I agree with the others that Uwharrie is an excellent local choice and a good place to start.

Another favorite place I have gone hiking/primitive camping/fishing is Wilson's Creek in the NC mountains. Now that is an adventure. explorecaldwell.com/wilson-creek

Best wishes,
