It is my understanding there are two "Cane Creek"s in WNC that are hatchery supported trout streams, one in Mitchell County and one in Buncombe County. From what I could find online, the Mitchell County stream is fairly popular and even has a delay harvest section on the lower reaches. Well my inquiry is about the less popular of the two. I plan to fish the Buncombe County stream as much as I can this summer, however, there is very little info online other than what the DNR website has to offer. I was hoping someone has fished this stream before and could provide some direction on access points, spots to checkout/avoid, flies to use, etc.

Thanks and Happy Fishing,
-AC

I grew up in Fairview and fished it a few times as a kid before I really knew what I was doing. I remember parking by the bridge where Sharon Rd. intersects Cane Creek Rd., but it was on the edge of a corn field and the owner likely could have asked me to move (there was room to pull off but it is technically private property). The fishing itself wasn't super great but it was high summer and we had crappy tackle.

Also when I went to Cane Creek Middle my 8th grade science class once did a project in the creek and there was a pretty good access for wading down behind the school although it gets pretty deep as spots. I'm sure there are plenty of spots if you take the time to look, I've also heard of some good spots deeper in Fletcher but never explored.

Is it the one that goes through burnsville? We stayed in a cabin on that one last september and me and my brother, who aren't even very experienced trout fisherman, each caught a big trout, one brown and one brook, and a dozen or more rainbows, smallmouth, rock bass, and suckers. Half of the fish were fly fishing and the rest on spinning.
