So I am new when it comes to catfishing the river off a boat. (jst got a a boat)
I kill it at the lakes but every time I go down the river from the lock in dam near fay off of 87 I don't have any luck. I have been useing live bait, cut bait , liver, ell with no luck. I wanna hook into a nice size cat. Any advice as far as baits, rigs maybe even a different location for some dam good catfishing ?

I've tried a few times from shore and a few times from a boat, never any luck. Check out Riverside bait and tackle off Person St., they sell a variety of baits in there along with some tackle and can probably tell you what the cats are chewing these days. There is a steep but usable ramp behind the shop as well. I know there are some good cats to be had in the river, a buddy of mine has done quite well catching cats in excess of 30 pounds, and I know there have been much bigger caught out of the cape fear in that stretch.

Man I have never had any luck on the cape fear I have had friends catch fish from outta there but me, no luck lol also you may wanna try an pull an all nighter if you looking for big cats. I usually pretty much fish lakes on fort bragg man the cat fishing is great instead of using my gas to travel to a location expecting to catch a monster I go to fort bragg. I've been all over looking for big cats there either hard as **** to find or there hanging on someones wall lol I tried the cape fear, loc and dam off 87, Jordan lake AND dam, with disappointing results an lemme tell you I typcally fish from dusk just before sun down till sun up darn near noon next day an nothing ATM compares to the luck I have on for bragg!
