I am headed to Carolina Beach in a couple of weeks for a week and taking my boat. I have surf fished the area but never inland. My question is what is Carolina Beach Inlet like to navigate? I have a Scout 177 and if weather cooperates would like to slip out and try to catch some Spanish. Also looking for any suggestions on other inland areas to try (trout, flounder, sheepshead, drum, all on the agenda for the week). I purchased a Top Spot Chart for that area and it looks like decent options within a short distance of the harbor area.

Plenty of experience in a boat, just none in that area

Thanks for any guidance

It's about as good as it's been in a while right now, due to some recent dredging. You can check in at Island Tackle for the latest intel. I would recommend running out behind a local and then you can follow your track back in. It shows it's teeth near the bottom of the fall with an onshore wind.
