May be vacationing across street from Carolina Beach State Park. They rent fishing kayaks there. Thinking about taking a 1/2 day or day to give it a shot. Any tips or pointers would be appreciated. Probably going gulp all the way but may take net and bait bucket.

Anyone know what time that park opens? I remember it being 8 am. But do they ever open gates earlier?

My advice, stay out of Snow's Cut on a yak particularly if it's new to you. If a boat of any size comes through there, it's not wide enough to even begin dispersing the wake which is why it continues to widen on it's own. Originally it was a just a small canal.

I'd take the net and bucket for sure. Plenty of finger mullet in the creeks. Put one on a c-rig, 1/2 oz barrel sinker and a circle hook. Chuck it up close to the grass/oysters and stick it in the rod holder while you are tossing your gulp.

From the launch go left and start fishing the grass if the tide is up enough.

Fish with a jig right in the trench that goes out of the Marina. You will catch a flounder for sure right now.
