Rockfish Under a Bobber

Does anyone fish for rockfish fish with a chunk of cut bait under a float?

I've used that set up in the ocean using live eels. If you have a lot of current you may have a problem keeping the bait at the right depth. If you could keep it at the targeted depth it should work, I would think.

I do with live shad in Kerr Lake, never tried it in a river, beach

I use Redi-rigs with live eels frequently in the bay, put a little weight on it works just fine.
