I wish I could help ya, Jeffy but I don't fish down that way. Hopefully some of the guys that do may chime in.

I find the fishing is best when the water is transitioning from low to high. I have less luck when the water is high.



Baitfish are often shad, bluegill, and assorted panfish. The guys shore fishing up near the dam have a lot of success catching bass with live shad. The guys on the island at the base of the dam usually use cut up fish and throw towards the dam for catfish.

They run "recreational flow" on the weekends from May to October. During these times they run about 3500fps flow from 10am-5pm.

I only have a license to fish NC, so I don't go down that way. I'd reach out to user "catawba" who is known to occasionally fish that stretch of river.

Are you fishing from shore, boat, or yak?
