RALEIGH, N.C. (May 15) - After dropping the minimum weight requirement on the channel catfish state record category earlier this year, the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission announced today that John Davinson has reeled in the new state record with his catch of a 16-pound channel catfish from the Roanoke River.
Davinson, of Clayton, caught his record-breaker on April 19, using a Shimano rod and reel combo and a golden shiner minnow. The fish measured 32½" in length and 19½" in girth.
The fish was weighed on certified scales at Atlas Fish Market in Roanoke Rapids and was verified as a new state record by Kirk Rundle, a fishery biologist with the Commission.
To qualify for a state record, anglers must have caught the fish on a hook and line, must have the fish weighed on a certified scale witnessed by one observer, have the fish positively identified by a qualified expert from the Commission and submit an application with a full, side-view photo of the fish.

You may remember that the 1971 record was discredited after someone reveiwed the picture of the record catch and determined that it wasn't a Channel Catfish but a Flathead. The record was vacant for sometime and apparently the state wasn't getting any submissions because they lower the minimum requirement from 20 lbs to 10lbs. The current world record is 58lbs.
I think that you have a good chance of posting your name on that record Sundrop. Good Luck I would like to see you up there.
You should see how my aunt and uncle send me the used tickets from their season tickets to Hines Field. Is a cruel, cruel world to a football coach who's busiest time coincides with the time they want you to come up to a game. I have a black and gold room at the house. Coincidentally it's also the only room I'm allowed to keep any of my stuff in. The rest of the house belongs to the wife and I have to walk carefully.
